Article published on Friday, October 16, 2009

David Altman, a native of Lake City, S.C., is the new president and chief executive officer of Lynches River Electric Cooperative. Altman has 19 years of electrical engineering experience.

Altman comes to Lynches River from Lumbee River Electric Membership Coorporation in North Carolina where he was vice president of engineering and operations for the 54,000 member electric distribution cooperative.

Altman's extensive background in management, distribution operations, engineering, economic development, technology, finance and project development are assets to the cooperative.

A career highlight is Altman's involvement in the start-up of a limited liability company with four partnering electric membership cooperatives, including Lumbee River, to provide electric distribution services and construction for Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base and Camp Mackall in North Carolina.

Altman's role was to oversee engineering and operations for the newly formed Sandhills Utility Services. The venture was profiled in the September 2003 issue of Rural Electric Magazine.

Altman is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and a concentration in electric power engineering. He began his career at Choptank Electric Cooperative in Denton, Md. later joining Lumbee River EMC in 1994.
