Four local high school students will represent Lynches River Electric Cooperative on the 2019 Washington Youth Tour, and four additional students will represent LREC at the South Carolina Cooperative Youth Summit.
The selection committee chose Elizabeth Freeman, Kendall Jenkins, Avery Milhorn, and Claire Stone to attend the week-long Washington event in June. They will be traveling with over 70 other South Carolina students to the nation’s capital where they will be joined by more than 1,500 students from across the country.

During their stay in Washington, they will participate in numerous activities including visiting their Congressmen, touring historical sites and learning more about electric cooperatives.
For the Cooperative Youth Summit, the selection committee chose Brenna Broughton, Anna Hinson, Mackenzie Kral, and Chloe Threatt. During this event in our state capital, students will enhance their leadership skills, engage in team-building exercises and learn about electric cooperatives and the co-op business model.

Winners were chosen on the basis of their school and community involvement, communication skills and knowledge gained about cooperatives in the application process. To be eligible for the Washington Youth Tour and Cooperative Youth Summit, students must be current high school juniors and live and/or attend school in the LREC service area.
Congratulations to all!
