Don’t get caught without power

September 2, 2022

Brian Broughton standing in front of LREC headquarters

The development of electrical power is certainly one of the greatest advancements of all time. So many technologies that make our lives more comfortable and convenient today are useless without electricity. That’s why an unexpected power outage—whether for a short period of time or longer—can be so frustrating.

No one can predict when a power outage might occur or how long one might last. While LREC’s skilled linemen work diligently to restore power to our members in these circumstances, it goes without saying that the severity of the outage plays a key role in determining how long it takes to restore power. I don’t know about you, but hours can seem like days in these situations, and that is usually when I become increasingly thankful for electricity.

Whenever the power goes out, a generator can be a lifesaver. LREC sells many options that can meet your power needs and budget.

A Generac standby generator will automatically provide electricity to your entire home should the power go out. It runs on existing natural gas or liquid propane fuel and is permanently installed beside your home like an HVAC unit. This option comes with technology that allows you to monitor the status of the generator from a cell phone, tablet, or computer should you be away. This option guarantees the easiest supply of power to your home during an outage and will automatically shut off once the power is restored.

A portable generator can provide power at your home or can be taken elsewhere to be used for other purposes. There are various models available depending on specific needs. When choosing this option, it is important to choose a generator that will supply power to the appliances or equipment needed during a power outage. An extension cord can be used to power essential items, or a better option is the use of a transfer switch that can be professionally installed.

If you already own a generator, you may consider having a GenerLink transfer switch installed. This allows power to be delivered directly to your breaker box, so extension cords are no longer needed. You just plug in the cord from the generator to the GenerLink unit.

Hurricane season is here, and winter weather is just around the corner. Don’t get caught without power. Let us help you get the best generator for your needs. Call (843) 672-6111 for more details.
