Sign up by June 30 for a chance to win a $500 gift card
Whether or not you are signed up to Beat The Peak, you’re a winner because you’re a member of Lynches River Electric Cooperative.
But the nearly 65,000 that have already signed up have multiple chances to win monetary prizes.
Lynches River Electric Cooperative members who are participating in the Peak Alert program on June 30 will be eligible to win a $500 Visa gift card in a statewide prize drawing. In addition, one Lynches River Electric Cooperative member will win a $100 gift card from a local prize drawing. Nancy Somers was the 2022 Beat the Peak winner from LREC. If you are already signed up, it is not necessary to register again to be eligible for the prizes.
By participating in the Peak Alert program to Beat The Peak, electric cooperative members across South Carolina receive phone, email or text notifications that remind them to reduce their electricity consumption during peak use periods. Those members receive an alert that shows the projected time of a system-wide energy peak, typically occurring in the late afternoon of high temperature days. By voluntarily delaying the use of large appliances, adjusting their thermostat or just turning off some lights during that peak time, they help to lower wholesale power costs.
That’s a win for everyone that the co-op serves.
“The cost of wholesale power makes up approximately two-thirds of what our members pay for electricity,” explains Erica Shehane, community relations liaison. “By reducing the peak demand, we’re making a significant impact on our power bill and can pass those savings on to our members.”
Lynches River Electric Cooperative members who are not signed up to Beat The Peak can easily sign up using our online form. Just put in your name, select Lynches River Electric Cooperative from the drop-down menu, and insert the contact information where you want to receive peak alerts—phone call, e-mail and/or text message.
