We are excited to announce that a local high school student participated in the Virtual Youth Experience podcast challenge sponsored by the state’s electric cooperatives.
Kambrie Kearns, a rising senior at Chesterfield High School, participated in the Virtual Youth Experience earlier this summer. Following the experience, students from across South Carolina worked in groups to create podcasts that explain how the COVID-19 pandemic and other world events have affected their lives this year.
A panel of distinguished journalists, including Craig Melvin of NBC’s TODAY show, Kenneth Moton from ABC’s World News Now and Cindi Scoppe and Avery Wilks from The Post and Courier newspaper, selected one winning podcast group to win the top prize —a $5,000 scholarship for each group member– and awarded $500 scholarships to a number of finalists on July 31. Though Kamrbie’s group was not selected, we are all very proud of the hard work and dedication she invested in creating this podcast.
