Serving you, every day

November 18, 2020

I OFTEN ASK MYSELF, “What am I doing to make the areas we serve a better place?” and “What can our co-op do to improve the quality of life for our members?”  Honestly, I don’t believe you answer those questions with WORDS. You have to answer it with ACTIONS.

Giving Back

Community is truly at the center of our purpose at Lynches River Electric Cooperative. Through Operation Round Up we’ve given over $82,000 in community aid and assistance to individual co-op members. This would not be possible without you, our members.

We also give back through our employee founded and supported non-profit, The LIGHT Foundation. In the past year we’ve given $33,000 to organizations and people in need in Lancaster, Kershaw and Chesterfield counties. These funds fed over 75 families Thanksgiving dinner, purchased a roof for an elderly woman, provided financial assistance for mounting medical bills and much more.

Smart Thermostat Program

At Lynches River, we’re always looking for the most efficient, cost effective way of doing things. When the opportunity to offer our members an innovative product that could also help reduce their energy costs came along, it was too smart to pass up.

Starting in 2021, LREC will have ecobee smart thermostats available to purchase at a discounted rate for members willing to participate in our load management program. By participating in the program, members will agree to allow the cooperative to control the thermostat during peak periods. The program, which is set to launch in January of 2021, aims to lower the cooperative’s wholesale energy costs. Keep an eye out for additional information on this exciting new program in the upcoming months.

Fiber is Faster

Congratulations to our first RiverNet Connect customer! Pictured from left are RiverNet Connect employees Nick Dorman and John Cauthen, FOS contract employee Kevin Adams, the Eaker family and Greg Demby, a FOS contract employee.

Perhaps our biggest and most exciting project of this past year was the launch of our fiber internet subsidiary, RiverNet Connect. In the past year, we’ve hung over 290 miles of fiber throughout our service area to offer high-quality, high-speed internet to thousands of members. As a matter of fact, after months of planning and preparation, we’re excited to have connected our first member to receive service from RiverNet Connect. Though it will take time, we will continue to work until we accomplish our goal to provide world-class internet to every house in every community we serve.

We are proud of all we have accomplished for our members and our community in the past year, but our work is not done. As always, we will continue to strive to better serve you every day.

From your LREC family, we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season,

BRIAN W. BROUGHTON
