Huge deal!
IN CASE YOU missed it, Pageland is the winner of the Touchstone Energy Passion Project. LREC nominated Pageland knowing it would be the perfect recipient of this national award. Throughout 2020, we will be working with the Home Town Team, made
up of Josh Nowell and Jim and Mallorie Rasberry, and the Pageland Chamber to develop a creative vision for Pageland’s future. If the names associated with the Home Town Team sound familiar, the three continue to be instrumental in the revitalization of Laurel, Mississippi, the subject of the HGTV hit, “Home Town”.
A new day in Pageland
There are 16,740 towns in the U.S.
with fewer than 10,000 residents; Pageland’s population is 2,683. These rural communities are either growing or dying. Once a bustling railroad town, Pageland lost its spark over the years, becoming another small rural community pushed to the side and forgotten. Together with Pageland’s stakeholders, we are determined to step up to the challenges Pageland faces and reclaim the greatness this town once enjoyed. Pageland is less than 20 miles from what has been designated as the Charlotte metro. Growth is quickly spreading towards Pageland, and we can either help shape Pageland’s future and assist in writing the outcome or we can sit back and let the story unfold in a less than desirable manner.

Amazing community spirit
While Pageland serves as LREC’s operations headquarters, the co-op does not provide electric service to residents of the Town of Pageland. So why nominate Pageland? Pageland’s progress, or lack of progress, ultimately affects our members living in the surrounding areas. Pageland has an amazing spirit, and we want to do everything within our power to help this community reach its fullest potential.
Dream big. Start small.
The process has only begun. While we must dream big, it will take years of small steps before we enjoy big results. Some may be content with the current state of Pageland; however, growth for all rural communities is critical, providing unlimited opportunities for its residents and a better quality of life for all.
